Covid-19 Update

Dear Families,                                                                                                               Updated on March 28, 2020

As we all attempt to settle into the new normal of social distancing, closed schools and therapy centers, we are juggling our foremost concern about staying healthy with trying to keep our children active both physically and mentally. We are here to support you in any way we can. Some options for your consideration include:

  • virtual tutoring / distance learning through the Google Hangout or Zoom platforms. Contact Suzie Blattner if you would like to pursue this option. We are offering a reduced rate for this service

  • individualized packets of digital learning materials that are consistent with the goals that have been targeted in tutoring

  • telephone consults or video conferencing to help you navigate strategies for successfully using materials sent home from your child's school

  • assistance in developing a schedule and routine for your child

Rest assured, we are staying abreast of the requirements for school systems to provide special education support to students during this time. According the Department of Education, if programming is not provided for students without disabilities, there is no requirement to provide programming to students with disabilities. However, if your child’s school, school system or district is providing remote learning packets or distance learning options for students without special needs, they are required to provide equitable opportunities and materials for your child. In other words, school systems and school districts are required to include students with disabilities in these plans and or any services provided.

3/28/20 UPDATE

Montgomery County Public Schools, the Office of the State Superintendent (OSSE) for the District of Columbia, and DCPS have all issued guidance related to the provision of special education to their students during the extended school closure.  Please see links to the relevant, official statements here:
