Lina Lewis Sturges has worked in the field of special education for over thirty-four years. She is currently employed as a middle school classroom teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools. Prior to working for MCPS, Lina had a 25-year career at the Ivymount School in Rockville, Maryland. At Ivymount, Lina taught students with a wide variety of disabilities in the Lower, Middle, and High School Programs. Lina also served as the Middle School Director for 6 years, and the Middle and Lower School Director for 1 year during her tenure at Ivymount.
Since coming to Montgomery County Schools in 2007, Lina has co-taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English in both inclusion co-teaching and self-contained models. Lina has experience teaching Resource classes with a focus on providing academic support for developing and improving skills in the areas of organization, social, study, written language, and time management.
Lina holds a Bachelor of Arts in Speech/Language and Hearing Science from the University of Maryland, a Master of Arts Degree in Education and Human Development from The George Washington University, and a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. In addition, Lina holds an Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate in both Middle School English/Language Arts with highly qualified status; Special Education K-12, and Special Education English 5-12 with highly qualified status from the Maryland State Department of Education.
